Everyone has an immune system which protects us from diseases and germs. This system is broken into three different parts which work together to keep out harmful germs, and attack and destroy the ones that manage to get inside our bodies. The first part is basically our skin and mucus membranes (skin that produces mucous to keep it moist). That part of the immune system protects our bodies from parasites, bateria, and toxins. The second part of the immune system is known as the innate immune system, if responds to bacteria and viruses. The last part of the immune system is a bunch of white blood cells, called lymphocytes. That part of the immune system is the part that pairs with other helper cells and gets rid of germs in our bodies. Every day we are exposed to germs, and we don't get sick, because our immune system protects us. Usually, the older a person gets, the more germs our bodies become used to.
When you eat food, your immune system takes the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals that are important for fighting sicknesses out.
